Timothy 5:14: I will therefore that the younger women marry, bear children, guide the house, give none occasion to the adversary to speak reproachfully.
Titus 2: 1-5 tells us, “But speak thou the things”…Hold on, But what? Paul is reiterating what he said in chapter 1…So let’s go back: Get your bibles and read chapter 1…For the sake of typing a whole chapter and a half…Just go read it. Paul is talking of being godly, “the acknowledging of the truth, (II Timothy2:25) which is after godliness”. (II Timothy 3:16) 2. “In hope of eternal life” (II Timothy 1:1) 3. “But has in due times manifested his word through preaching”…
What Paul is saying is that we have eternal life, we have the grace of God through his son Jesus Christ. But sometimes we need some preaching! Sometimes we slip and fall into the world’s way of thinking. So we need to be reminded of some things. Yes, by grace I believe we will have eternal life. God promised it. But we each have roles in “this life”. We have to stay under the subjection of the Holy Spirit. We have to walk circumspectly! We can’t just get saved and continue in our old way of living. We can’t follow just any kind of teaching and expect to be rewarded—no matter how good it sounds. We have to have spiritual discernment. Or else we’ll follow the teaching of those in darkness. We have to follow sound doctrine! Right teaching!
Paul goes on to tell Titus to find elders and bishops and what to look for in an elder and bishop. Why? To set in order the things that are “wanting”. What kind of men did he specifically say to look for?
I Timothy 3:2, And also Titus 1:6…”If any be blamesless, the husband of one wife, having faithful children not accused of riot or unruly. 7. For a bishop must be blameless, as the steward of God; not self willed, not soon angry, not given to wine, no striker, not given to filthy lucre. 8. But a lover of hospitality, a lover of good men, sober, just, holy, temperate. 9. Holding fast the faithful word that as he hath been taught, that he may be able by sound doctrine both to export and to convince the gainsayers.”
There was a purpose in these men having the right qualifications…So we wouldn’t be led astray and deceived as some (I timothy 1:6) are. Those being ones who “profess that they know God but in works they deny him, being abominable, and disobedient, and unto every good work reprobate” (void of judgement!)
But let’s don’t stop here, because this is not the point of this writing. I wanted to point out these things, because it leads up to scripture that a lot of ladies live by or strive to live by, that being the keeper at home or “homekeeper”.
The men were first! They are the head, so they had to come first! We are to be taught by the example of these men of good standing. Don’t just listen to anyone who’ll tell you anything. Listen to the ones who are qualified.
Then we get to where I first began: Titus 2: 1-5: “But speak thou the things which become sound doctrine: …(he was telling Titus that he wanted men who would speak truth, who had been taught and were qualified to teach sound doctrine! If a man wasn’t qualified by the specific things mentioned in Titus 1:6-9 then he was not the man for the job.) And why did Paul think this was so important? Because he wanted men of God who could teach us the right way with sound doctrine, without any question, being blameless!
Teach who?? 2. …”aged men to be sober, grave, temperate, sound in faith, in charity, in patience.
And?? 3. …”aged women likewise, that they be in behavior as becometh holiness, not false accusers, not given to much wine, teachers of good things; That they may teach (emphasis mine) the young women to be sober, to love their husbands, to love their children, 5. To be discreet, chaste, keepers at home, good, obedient to their own husbands, that the word of God be not blasphemed.
6. Young men likewise exhort to be sober minded.
15. These things speak, and exhort, and rebuke with all authority. Let no man despise thee.
Why is all of this necessary? Because there has to be order. By grace we are saved through faith. But what comes after that? We are to follow sound doctrine, that we may live godly.
We want to be teachers of the young women, but we must first be taught by men of sound doctrine! We must first live godly lives and set an example to the young women.
And young women are to look to older women for advice!
Find ladies who have been there and done that!
Where are we getting our foundation we are building upon?
Find yourself a godly mentor! One who subjects herself to the teaching of a godly man, who in turn wants to follow biblical teaching and do her duty as has been stated in Titus 2:3. Follow her example and live above the lowly vision that the world teaches. So that the word of God will not be blasphemed! So that we will have learned and lived according to sound doctrine and cannot be blamed, nor the word of God.

Great post! I agree with the older women teaching the younger women. There aren’t enough who do and there are many young women desperate for their knowledge and help.
